Welcome to Foothills Freethinkers

We are a community of relaxed homeschoolers in the Colorado foothills who value freedom—in learning, in living, and in how we raise our families. Our group gathers Wednesdays, rooted in nature and community, to share projects, crafts, adventures, and plenty of free time for socializing and play. Together, we create space for our kids to explore the world with curiosity, creativity, and courage.

As a co-op, we hold to the belief in medical freedom, parental rights, and the importance of raising children without unnecessary outside interference. We are a values-driven community that welcomes families who respect personal choice, individual liberty, and the spirit of raising strong, independent thinkers.

Our gatherings are simple but rich: days spent outdoors on mountain acreage, interwoven with field trips, campouts, seasonal celebrations, and hands-on projects that bring both kids and parents closer together. More than just a homeschool co-op, we are a circle of families committed to living freely, learning fully, and supporting one another along the way.

This is a community endeavor, and we ask that all parents take turns leading (or assisting in) projects for the children. What are your strengths? What are you passionate about? Bring it to the table!

What Brings Us Together

We see all children as natural scientists. As parents, it is our duty to guide them and provide them with the materials to follow their natural instincts to explore, question, and learn.

We encourage parents to get involved, bring their passions to the table, and take turns leading hands-on lessons and projects.

We are here to facilitate learning through experiences, and to create a supportive environment for children and parents alike to meet and socialize.

We value each the individuality of each child, and allow them room to explore and grow, freely

What do we mean by freethinkers?

We teach our children to question everything they are told. Rather than learning to believe everything they are told, we teach them to:

  • Observe
  • Question
  • Reason
  • Hypothesize
  • Determine

Little freethinkers are raised by big freethinkers and that is what we are. Want to know more?

The Homestead

Our little 3 acre farm is home to dogs, cats, ducks and chickens. Children are encouraged to help care for the animals, collect eggs, and ask questions. Our greenhouse provides year-round leaning about gardening, plant cultivation, and herbalism.

STEM Activities

These are some of our children’s favorite activities. We incorporate elements from some of their favorite hobbies to create exciting STEM projects such as LEGO, remote control cars, engine-building, music technology, and mechanical and civil construction.

Exploring the Natural World

We also learn survival skills and orienteering, and weather patterns and solar/lunar cycles. We celebrate the changing of the seasons through the wheel of the year, solstices and equinoxes. We use nature walks and camping trips as prime learning opportunities.

*All projects are designed to be flexible, optional, and are centered around what the children want to learn.
